When I asked you a question the other week about using a 18T clutch bell you said you had to modify the chassis by enlongating the holes.
You also said that I could use a 47T spur gear and a 15T clutch that doesn't require any modifications.
Does that mean that I still require the newer engine mounts as well or does using the smaller spur gear negate this?

yes, you need the optional engine mounts to switch to ANY different size spur or clutchbell on the SNR.

even though the 15tooth 'bell might appear to fit without the mounts, the gear mesh will be extremely tight, causing alot of friction and damaging the gears as well.

Thanks for that,on that basis then on the A863 engine mounts do the two sets of holes line up something like in this picture below?
What I am trying to say is are they a straight through design so would it be possible to use long enough screws to go through the chassis, mounts and then leave enough thread to fit a nut to the top?
I was thinking it might be more solid than having the mounts fixed to the chassis with one set of screws and then the engine fixed to the mounts with another set.
Sorry for the dodgy picture but can you see what I am getting at?

yes but it will not use the original holes that the 15FE used

also yeah it goes straight through

I don't think so. What I do is thread lock the engine to the mounts (the scews, of course!) and check the chassis screws before every other run.

When saying "no modifications to the chassis", I meant you don't have to lenghten the slots. I recommend using engine mounts with any set-up.

PS: Please don't put a personal message in the title, other forum users (like Robstoys and SN VipeR) can help you just as well.

and although the mounts use a "straight through" design, the holes would need to be retapped, as the threads go opposite directions within the hole from top to bottom.

It would not be any stronger really doing it your way, even if you retapped the mount.

I thought about that afterwards...
