PLAZMA 3S LiPo size problem (Sprint 2 Flux RTR)

Hello,

Recently I bought a new HPI Sprint 2 Flux RTR Car:
http://www.hpieurope.com/kit-info.ph...100424&lang=en

I was looking for a battery too and bought a PLAZMA 11.1V Lipo:
http://www.hpieurope.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=101943

First i looked at the “Plazma LiPo Battery Fitting Guide for HPI Kits” and it says:

“Sprint 2 Flux - 25mm case 7.4V 5300 fits OK (belt will rub slightly) but #101940 or #101941 round case fits better because of belt.”

It said nothing about the 11.1V pack here. Further down however it said that the 11.1V pack will FIT the stock Sprint 2 Flux:

Well, it does not fit at all... The 11.1V Lipo I have is way bigger (higher) than the one on the product page pic (even though it is the same model):

The packs lenght or width does not seem to be a problem, but the height as you can see is slightly too high for the car to fit and WAY to high for the belt – even if it would fit by height, the belt would rub strong on the lipo.

So of course my question is: Is there a (easy, low-cost) way to mod the chassis to make the 3S lipo fit in? I was looking for fun out of the box and I’m not much of a tinkerer, thats why I bought the RTR and the pre wired PLAZMA Lipo. I also searched google and this forum for similar problems with no luck.

The info on the HPI product page is simply wrong or at least incomplete regarding the 11.1 PLAZMA pack. Maybe it will fit –somehow- but not on the stock car... This battery was NOT cheap and I’m quite dissapointed right now as you can probably understand. The LAST solution for me would be to sell the Lipo and buy a 7.4V 2 cell hard case (fits “OK” according to HPI but who knows...). Did I overlook something ? Does the pack fit and I'm only too stupid to realize how?

I would be thankful for any advice. Sorry for mediocre english.

Daniel

No it won't fit the Sprint 2.

The casing of the current 11.1v Plazma is much higher than the 7.4v versions. Supplier mix up with the casing size has caused the problem with the listings. It will only fit the Savage Flux, Vorza and Hot Bodies VE8 because of it's size.

I don't think the Motiv ESC recommends 11.1v with the Flux 5700KV motor. Have a look at your instructions, I think it recommends a lower rated motor with the use of 11.1v.

Your PM is set to off. So i'll put it here instead:

I'm from HPI Europe and i'm sorry for the problems this issue has caused you.

The 11.1v Lipo is way to big for the 1/10th scale range. It was supposed to be the same size as the 7.4v from our supplier but the final product was not the same.

It is being removed from the kit parts lists and as a recommended option for the 1/10th scale cars as we speak.

As I said if you take it back to the shop where you bought it from, I have already contacted our after sales team to let them know that a shop may contact them about returning one, so they can provide you with a 7.4v replacement.

Again we apologise for the mistake and hope you get to use the car soon.

I've run the Flux system on 7.4v and it is still very very quick.

Kind regards,

David Bone

Thanks for the answer David!

I didn't deactivate my PM on purpose, looks like it is off by default(?). I searched the "User CP" for an option to activate it but did not find anything. Guess I overlooked it.

Anyway, I have contacted the UK HPI dealer and I hope they can take the item back, we'll see.

Which 7.4V pack would you recommend? The 7.4V hardcase or the 7.4V roundcase pack? I really would want to go with the hardcase because the Sprint 2 Flux chassis is partially open and I want as much protection against dirt and little stones and so on. I also know that the belt will rub a bit on the hardcase pack, so I'm not really sure which one to get.

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi Daniel

thats ok mine was off as well until I went to send you one

I'd go for the #101941 - HPI Plazma 7.4V 4000mAh 20C Lipo Round Case Stick Pack Re-Chargeable Battery

The rounded edge gives a better fit under the belt.

I hope it all works out for you.

Hey,

A little update on the case here:

I was able to return the 11.1V pack and got the #101941 - HPI Plazma 7.4V 4000mAh 20C Lipo. It fits the car without any problems! Time to burn some rubber

Thanks for the recommendation David!

Hi,

I have just purchased a new vorza and 2 plazma 11.1v 3c batterys. These batterys DO NOT fit in the vorza either. Just spent around £670 and can't use my new big boys toy. I brought the batterys from wheelspin models on mail order and foolishly i have thrown the boxes away although they have not been used. Does anyone know where i stand with this? Also what 11.1v 3c battery will fit into the vorza if the company that makes the car cant produce any? Im totally gutted.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

don`t panic i believe they do actually fit, have a look again squire,
http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/car...Flux-HP__d27e/

it does mention on the add,
Quote:
Note, twin HPI Plazma 11.1v batteries do fit the Vorza, but may rub require slight modification to the battery tray.
This will probably mean the battery tray will need a little bit cut away to make them fit and all should be well.

Cheers,
T.
